Research Interest

Dr. Arvind Kumar research focuses on environmental remediation techniques, mainly using biochar and engineered biochar for the removal of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) water and soil systems. Dr. Kumar has extensive experience synthesizing and characterizing biochar and biochar-based materials and their application in treating environmental contaminants such as Dye, Antibiotics, and toxic metal ions (e.g., Cd, Pb, Cr).

  • • Biomass Conversion into Value-added Products
  • • Biochar and Biochar based materials
  • • Remove emerging contaminants from the environment
  • • Adsorption Mechanism and Contaminant Modeling

Biography

Dr. Arvind Kumar joined Centre for Research in Functional Materials (CRFM), Jain University, in September 2024. Dr. Kumar completed a Ph.D. in Ecology and Environmental Sciences from Pondicherry University, India, and held a SERB-OVDF Fellow at the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, University of Alberta, Canada. Their work has contributed significantly to advancing the understanding of biochar's role in environmental cleanup, with more than ten research articles and three book chapters published in peer-reviewed journals and books.

Arvind enjoys attending conferences, meeting with friends and family, going hiking, going on road trips, going to the cinema, and visiting new places worldwide in his spare time.

Awards and Fellowships

2022-2023 SERB-Overseas Visiting Doctoral Fellowship, University of Alberta, Canada.
2017-2022 Ph.D. scholarship by Pondicherry University, India.
