Jain University’s Fire and Combustion Research Centre organized a five day workshop on CFFP (Certified Fire Forensics program) from 11 to 15 December 2017. The course on fire forensics was held at the premises of JAIN global campus in collaboration with UL-India. CFFP was designed for a niche target such as Architect / Equipment specifiers, Code authorities, Fire fighting product designers and product managers, Fire / Risk engineering staff, Fire service personnel, Risk analysts and System integrators. 25 participants attended this course who hailed from different parts of the nation and from various occupational backgrounds. This course covered four major topics related to fire investigations and forensics, which were:
- 1. NFPA 1033: Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator.
- 2 .NFPA 921 Guides for Fire and Explosion Investigations.
- 3. Determining the cause and origin of fire along with understanding of fire and smoke patterns.
- 4. Burn tests and a live demonstration of flame and smoke spread patterns.
Faculty members of CFFP were areas of expert in the field of Fire forensics namely, Robert James (Global Building / Security Inspection Leader, UL, USA), Jamie Novak (Founder of Novak Investigations, Inc., and Chief Fire Investigator for the City of Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA.) and Karthikeyan G (Engineering Leader, Building Inspections, UL India Private limited). Upon successfully completing the online course examination, participants name would be published on the UL.com program website.
The next CFFP workshop is scheduled from 5 – 9 November 2018 at the same venue (FCRC).
